Batile Alake, also known as Alhaja Batile Alake, was a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene and one of the early voices of Waka — an Islamic-oriented Yoruba music genre.

Born in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, she began her musical journey in the 1950s, performing with her aunt, Rafatu Fowosere’s waka band and later as a backup vocalist for Apala legend Haruna Ishola.

Throughout her career, Alhaja Batile Alake released approximately 50 records, including notable tracks like “Iwa,” “Ore,” and “Odun Titun Wole”. Her influence paved the way for future Waka artists, including Salawa Abeni, who was later crowned “Queen of Waka” by the Alaafin of Oyo in 1992.

Alake’s legacy extends beyond her recordings; she performed for dignitaries, including Queen Elizabeth II in 1956, and was honored with the title Iyalaje of Ijebu-Igbo. She passed away in 2013 at the age of 78.
