Orlando Julius Aremu Olusanya Ekemode, professionally known as Orlando Julius or Orlando Julius Ekemode was a prominent Nigerian saxophonist, singer and bandleader born on the 22nd of September, 1943.
He began playing professionally as a kid, working with renowned musicians in Ibadan, a prominent Nigerian cultural centre, before starting his own band (the Modern Aces), in 1964. The band developed a sizable local following as a result of Julius’ efforts to meld highlife and other African genres with American influences. On April 15 2022, Orlando Julius passed away.
