Who Was Fatai Rolling Dollar?
Fatai Rolling Dollar was born Prince Olayiwola Fatai Olagunju on the 22nd of July, 1927 to Chief Olagungu, in Ede, Osun state.
He got his nickname which later became his stage name from his schoolmates at the age of nine because he was always carrying around two shillings which his father would give him to spend on his brother and sister while he (father) is away.
He was a celebrated Nigerian musician and one of the pioneers of Highlife music in Nigeria.
Rolling Dollar started off his musical career in 1953. He is a mentor to some notable musicians including Ebenezer Obey and the late Orlando Owoh.
He was known for his dexterity at playing the guitar, Rolling Dollar’s last major hit was “Won Kere Si Number Wa”.
